Over the last 115 years, at least 3,111 incidents of terrorism have been reported, claiming 55,149 Lives and Injuring 1,11,730. That’s an average of 18 fatalities and 38 Injured per attack.
Also at least 194 Terror Groups have emerged because of various local and International situations.

Actually they do. 27th August is the only day of the year for which no terror attack has been reported in the last 115 years.
For all remaining days, including leap year’s 29th Feb, terror attacks have taken place. Beat that.

Let’s get back to the fact that the last 115 years have seen the rise of roughly 194 terror groups, but could you imagine that the organizations we believe would save human life, sometimes end up taking some in what is described as acts of terror.
This would includeCentral Intelligence Agency (CIA), Israeli Mossad, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), Sudan’s Armed forces, Royal Air Force, Kazakhstan Police, Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, Egyptian Armed Forces, Basra Police Iraq, Armenian Secret Services and Military of Nigeria.
Now, were these incidents intentional or an error, is anybody’s guess.

Your Terror IQ would be incomplete without understanding the various tools of Terrorism.
Yes of course, Bombing, shooting and Hijacking seem to be the straight forward and obvious answers but it’s not that simple.

You read through so much information and statistics, though already available on public forums and worldwide web, is not exactly actively propagated by Media.
You would surely be aware of the 9/11 US attacks or the more recent ISIS France Shooting, which are of course very unfortunate incidents. But did you really know that Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan were so terrorized?
This probably implies that media coverage for terror incidents in some countries is more intense than in others. Let’s ask the golden question.
When it comes to terror incidents coverage, is the life of few specific nationalities more important than others?
We smell a misadventure here on behalf of the media agencies.

There are a lot of resources available online, which provide valuable Terrorism related information. We’ve stuck to a single source ( Wikipedia’s page on List of (non – state) terror incidents ) for this research to avoid any inconsistencies, duplication and most importantly any possible bias. It could be argued that the data might not be 100% complete or accurate, but it is enough to derive uncontestable meaningful inferences.
Also this is not a Terrorism essay on history of Terrorism. It’s about the meaningful facts and findings which were possibly yet uncovered in the history of Terrorism.

Terrorism Definition differs widely in lot of forums. To keep it simple, a Terrorism incident or a terror attack is one –
- Which is not approved by the legitimate authority of a recognized state
- Which is illegally perpetrated against people or property
- Which is to further political, religious, or ideological objectives
This post does not cover “State Sponsored Terrorism” and that would be covered in a separate post.
